While many of the major events within the publishing industry are held in the far-flung centers of business, most indie authors find it difficult to attend due to travel and cost. Fortunately, forward thinking organizations are able to intervene using available technology in order to reach a broader audience of indie authors. IndieRecon, which will take place at the end of this week, is one such event that is bringing some of the most innovative names in publishing to computer screens around the world.
According to a press release issued on the event, “For the first time ever, a small group of indie authors decided to do something to help other indie authors find their way. They were frustrated with that stigma and wanted to help change it. The co-founders include a small team of top-selling and award-winning indie authors including IndieReader Discovery Winner of YA S.R. Johannes (Untraceable), Ali Cross (Become), Laura Pauling (A Spy Like Me), Jessie Harrell (Destined), Cheri Lasota (Artemis Rising), and Heather McCorkle (Channeler’s Choice). This group got together and decided to host a conference focusing on quality and craft.
“’Let’s be honest. We all know there is a stigma out there and we know why. There is a lot of low quality stuff being chunked out. So we decided to try and change that by helping the indie community learn more about how to create outstanding, high quality books. Because it can – and is – done every day,’ says S.R. Johannes, author of the award-winning and bestselling YA thriller “Nature of Grace” series.”
IndieReCon will take place online and is FREE to any attendee who registers. The conference is scheduled for Feb 19th – 21st 2013 and will include over 30 bestselling indie authors (YA and adult) and experts covering topics that span the entire process of indie publishing. Presenters include many top authors in the publishing industry that have taken the indie path such as Hugh Howey (Wool), Bob Mayer (who has published over 50 titles), Darcy Chan (Mill River Recluse), and M. Leighton (Down to You) along with many experts in the industry from organizations like Bowker, ALLi (Alliance of Independent Authors), IndieReader, BiblioCrunch, World Literary Café, Kindle Fire Department, and the Indelibles. In addition to many amazing giveaways, the 3-day conference will include blogs, vlogs, and live chats on every topic imaginable. The full schedule is available on the website.
