The Tolino Alliance often uses the Frankfurt Book Fair to make big product announcements. This year will be no different and they will have two new e-readers to show off, the Tolino Vision HD and Tolino Shine 3.
Not much is known about the two models but likely the HD model will have higher resolution and appeal towards the same demographic that would buy the Kindle Voyage or Kobo H2O. The third generation Vision will likely be an entry level model.
In other Tolino news, a few new members have joined the alliance. Mayerschen, is a regional book retailer in North Rhine Westphalia and has annual sales of €160 million; and Osiander, whom is retailer in southern Germany with 34 outlets.
In a few short years Tolino went from having no market share to accounting for 1 in every 2 e-books sold . The Tolino partners expect the digital book market in Germany to grow around 30% over the next five years. They also forecast that by 2020 Germans will be reading 9.1 million e-books a year, up from 7 million. in 2014.
