A couple of weeks ago Amazon released a new firmware update that would introduce a slew of new features in the coming weeks. It looks like this file is causing problems for some people who have older Kindles. The library view and home screen have disappeared, the only way to fix this issue is to deregister it or do a complete factory reset, although this option will warrant downloading all of your ebooks again from the cloud.
Amazon has not pulled the update file yet, and is still pushing it out to users. It remains to be seen if specific Kindle models are affected or if the firmwares new features that were turned on, are wreaking havoc.
If you are one of the unlucky ones whose Kindle is not working anymore, you can do the following;
To deregister your Kindle:
1. From the Home screen, tap the Menu icon, and then tap Settings.
2. Tap My Account, and then tap Deregister Device.
3. Tap Deregister again to confirm.
Then, restart your device:
1. Press and hold the Power button for 7 seconds until the Power dialog box appears.
2. Tap Restart.
To register your Kindle:
1. From the Home screen, tap the Menu icon, and then tap Settings.
2. Tap My Account.
3. Follow the onscreen instructions to register your device. If your Kindle has already been registered, select the option to deregister your device before entering your new registration information.
