Apple was a bit unprepared when ChatGPT and other AI tools stormed the internet. The big launch of ChatGPT last year and the revolution of AI tools in various sectors took all the limelight. Finally, AI applications proved to be more useful than just a buzzword.
In all this, Apple is taking proactive steps to develop AI features for its full range of devices. Apple and many tycoons like Amazon are reshaping themselves in the ChatGPT era.
What’s Apple’s Visions for Generative AI?
One of the most important goals of Apple Inc. is to respond to the AI that is ruling the technology world. The company has been trying to bring AI and its application to its devices, but it has to take some giant leaps.
Last year’s AI wave brought many big names to launch their own AI. For example, Microsoft updated its Windows apps with more intelligent assistants, and Amazon.com Inc. launched an AI-enhanced overhaul of Alexa.
In all of this, Apple’s only substantial AI release was an improved auto-correct system in iOS 17. With a long-determined goal, Apple may launch on-device processing for some features and the cloud for more refined tasks. Also, it’s planning to bring AI to all its applications.
The Progress
Chief Executive Officer Tim Cook said Apple has been working on generative AI technology for years. But last year’s AI fever put us on the back foot.
In July, the company made an AI language model called Ajax and founded an internal chatbot dubbed “Apple GPT” to check its possibilities. Now, Apple is exploring how this can be added to product applications and what its impact will be.
In this development, Apple’s senior vice presidents, the head of AI and software engineering, John Giannandrea and Craig Federighi, are looking out for this. They are known as “executive sponsors” of the generative AI push. With the CEO, this trio is spending about $1 billion per year.
In this project, Giannandrea is overlooking Siri and AI implementation on it. The improved model of Siri may be rolled out by next year.
On the other hand, Federighi is looking over how to add AI to the next version of iOS. It will improve Siri, auto-complete sentences, mirroring recent changes, and more.
Some of the other areas where Apple will implement AI are:
- It will welcome integrating generative AI into development tools like Xcode. Like Microsoft’s GitHub Copilot, it will help App developers write new applications faster.
- A strategy to push AI to any apps like Apple Music to generate Apple Music.
- AI that will help to write in apps like Pages or auto-create slide decks in Keynote.
- It plans to launch Generative AI for internal customer service apps within its AppleCare group.
- Also, Apple unveils exciting innovations at the Wonderlust Apple 2023 event. Many new upgrades, innovations, and model launches are going on. But bridging generative AI in Apple products is the need of the hour.
