Hardcover and Paperback books were destined to be disrupted by ebooks and from 2007 to 2014, this was the case. Since then, physical books have been making a comeback. Book sales in the United Kingdom decreased by 5.4% last year, which has put a stop to the growth that has been occurring since 2014. Print sales increased by 2% in the first half of 2018
Over the course of the first six months of 2018 print sales rose 4% and total unit sales increased 2% compared to a similar period in 2017. Print sales have evened out in 2017 and unit sales of books increased by a paltry 1.9% last year, which is slightly less than annual growth rates of 3% posted between 2013 to 2016.
