Diamond Comics Distributors is the exclusive distributor of print comics to specialty comics shops, so their monthly numbers give a pretty good picture of the print comics market. That market is dominated by Marvel and DC, but that dominance slipped a bit this month as both publishers had less than a 30% market share (in terms of dollars). This isn't the first time that has … [Read more...] about November Comics Sales: The Big Two Slip a Bit

DC Comics has an early holiday gift for readers: They are giving away the first issues of their digital-first comics all week long, so you can load up your e-reader with Batman, Superman, even the Vampire Diaries. The official press release says they are giving away one comic per day, but when I checked the DC digital store and the comiXology website this morning, both had … [Read more...] about DC Offers Free Digital Comics All Week

Earth 2 #17 7. Cataclysm: … [Read more...] about Digital Comics Best-Sellers for November 10, 2013
DC Graphic Novels and Collections Come to ComiXology and Google Play
In the beginning, digital comics were weirdly segmented, because different platforms had different exclusives. As those contracts expire and folks realize there's plenty of money to be made in every channel, distribution is evening out. That's what's happening here: DC announced yesterday that its graphic novels and collected editions will be available via comiXology and … [Read more...] about DC Graphic Novels and Collections Come to ComiXology and Google Play
Digital Comics Best-Sellers for September 29, 2013
This is a very interesting week for digital comics best-sellers, for two reasons: It's the first week without a new issue of the perennial best-seller Injustice: Gods Among Us, which has dominated the charts since we started compiling these lists, and three platforms (comiXology, Kindle, and Nook) had a 99-cent sale on Fables with varying effects on their lists. Let's take a … [Read more...] about Digital Comics Best-Sellers for September 29, 2013
ComiXology Passes 200 Million Downloads
Crains New York broke the news this week, in a profile of comiXology and its CEO David Steinberger, that the company has now passed the 200 million download mark. It was just about a year ago that they were at 100 million downloads, so that means they have downloaded 100 million comics in the past year or, if you do a bit of rounding, roughly 2 million comics per week. Now, … [Read more...] about ComiXology Passes 200 Million Downloads
Digital Comics Best-Sellers for September 22, 2013
One of these things is not like the other: Three of this week's best-seller lists had at least one title that seemed a little out of place. The other one, Nook, is so weirdly consistent from week to week that it's almost an outlier itself. ComiXology 1. Injustice: Gods Among Us #36 2. Infinity #3 3. Uncanny X-Men, vol. 3, #12 4. New Avengers, vol. 3 #10 5. Superior … [Read more...] about Digital Comics Best-Sellers for September 22, 2013
Injustice: Gods Among Us Comes to an End, for Now
If you follow our weekly Digital Comics Best Seller List posts, you know that Tom Taylor's Injustice: Gods Among Us is typically one of the top-selling comics on every platform, and often the individual issues make up more than half of the top ten. So it was rather startling news when DC announced yesterday that the series is going on hiatus for the rest of the year. This … [Read more...] about Injustice: Gods Among Us Comes to an End, for Now
DC To Launch New Teen Titans Go! Digital Comic
Teen Titans Go!, which launched earlier this year, is an animated cartoon (it runs during the DC Nation block on Cartoon Network) about a bunch of teen-aged comic-book characters—Robin, Starfire, Raven, Beast Boy and Cyborg. And now, DC is completing the cycle of (cartoon) life by making a digital-first Teen Titans Go! comic, which will be written by Merrill Hagan (a former … [Read more...] about DC To Launch New Teen Titans Go!
