Scholastic sales were down 7% in the past 3 months

Scholastic has reported that over the course of the past three months, revenue was $215.2 million, a decrease of 7% compared to $232.6 million in the first quarter of 2020. The decline in revenue was due to the school distribution channels due to COVID-impacted delays in school openings, as well as a shift in the timing of the release, as planned, of new titles in the popular Dog Man book series. Partially offsetting these declines were strong audiobook sales in the current period and improved results across a number of education business lines, including digital product subscriptions, teaching resources, summer literacy camps and summer reading programs.

Amazon is selling the Kindle DX on September 29th

Amazon is going to be selling the Kindle DX once again on September 29th. The company last sold this model back in 2014, when it discovered a cache of these 9.7 inch e-readers in a warehouse. It is going to retail for $199.99 and comes with free worldwide 3G internet access.

Kobo has revamped Table of Contents and Annotations

Kobo has revamped the way the Table of Contents and Annotations views are displayed on all of their e-readers, except the Kobo Mini. Amazon did not announce a new Kindle at their big event

Amazon has their annual Fall event today and the vast majority of new products that were announced had Alexa functionality. They unveiled the 4th generation Echo, various models of the Echo Dot, 3rd generation Echo Show, Fire Sticks, Ring devices and various other things. Sadly, they did not announce a new Kindle at this event, but they rarely do. Kindles used to have big media unveilings, but for the past few years, they just issue a press release and it is normally available right  away. This is primarily due to sales, Alexa enabled devices outsell e-readers at a huge ratio, so it makes sense e-readers are not priorities at media events.

Unboxing the 13.3 inch Onyx Boox Max Lumi e-note

The Max Lumi has a glass based screen that is flush with the bezel. It has a black, two toned color scheme on the front. There is a physical home button, right below the screen. The top of the chassis has a power button and on the bottom is your HDMI, USB-C, Microphone ports. On the back are  your two stereo speakers. I have found that the Max Lumi has great build quality and it feels heavy. It is an expensive e-note, since you are paying over 800 for it, so it is not for everyone. If you are looking for an ultra-modern 13.3 with a front-light and amber LED lights to read in the dark, or directly in the sun, this is for you.

Kaite B5 10.3 inch e-note Unboxing Video

The Kaite B5 features a 10.3 inch E-paper screen and does not have a battery. This makes it a very environmentally friendly and economical tool, as it does not consume items like paper or ink. There is a magnet at the top that houses the double sided stylus, one side does thick lines and the other are thin. There is an eraser cap that you can attach to whatever side you want, to erase things from the screen. It also ships with a dedicated eraser, with a pen holster on it. The eraser also has a clip on it, so you can attach to your device. It looks like an old blackboard eraser, but it is hightech.
